People choose to be baptized because they desire to follow Christ’s example, because he commanded it, because it is a declaration of faith before others, and because obeying Christ’s command shows him that we know him.

You should be baptized as soon as you have begun to believe. Don’t delay! Even if you were baptized as an infant, you may choose to be baptized a second time to indicate that you have chosen to follow Christ.

Baptism is a symbol of Christ’s burial and resurrection and a symbol of your new life as a Christian.

Like Jesus, in biblical examples, we are baptized by being immersed in water. The word baptize literally means “to dip under water.”

Every person who has made the decision to believe in Christ should be baptized.

Preparing Your Own Personal Testimony

Three things are vital to your testimony:

  • “Before” – What was your life like before you became a Christian?
  • “How” – What steps did you take to become a Christian?
  • “After” – What are some of the changes Christ has made in your life? What is the difference in you, now?

Before:  Include both the positive and negative aspects of your life. For example. the positive may be your desire to excel, concern for others, hard work, raised in a good home, etc. The negative aspects might be that you were selfish, greedy, bad-tempered, rebelled against God, or were passively indifferent.

How:  How did the Holy Spirit work in your life to bring you to the point of salvation? Where were you when you received Christ?

After:  Name two or three benefits of being Christian and how Christ has changed your life.
